Beijing 2008: Consultancy: ICOMOS Working Party

Hugh Harrison was asked to attend a working party to provide a strategy for conserving ‘caihua’ – the painted scenes found throughout palaces and temples in China.

  • The usual contradictory forces of repainting using traditional skills versus conservation had to be considered during the process of working out how Beijing could maintain its World Heritage status in respect of the work.
