An investigation into the oak panelling and cornicing in the Queens Gallery was commissioned by Historic Royal Palaces in advance of re-wiring works, and a single oak panel was removed for detailed examination. This identified signs of shrinkage, as well as evidence for the removal and reinstating of the panels up to three times in different periods, including documented restorations of 1898 and 1955. Historic repairs of varying degrees of success were also identified. The east wall showed increased evidence of splitting and warping due to heat from radiators.
